Coil Winder:

This machine, designed and built for use on the Superconducting Supercollider, places a 0.006 inch diameter insulated wire on a mandrel to form the coil for the path correcting magnets.  The machine was based on our laboratory scale, computer controlled filament winding machine and had an accuracy of placement of ±0.003 inches and repeatability of ±0.001 inches over a length of six feet.  The filament winding software was augmented with an interpreter that read a CAD file and fed the information directly to the machines motion control system.  A heating system in the wire feeding and guiding head produced enough tack in the wire insulation that it functioned as the adhesive.

Paint & Dome:

This machine is used to clamp and bond protective end dome caps on high pressure filament wound cylinders and at the same time rotate them for painting the surface.

CS-1248:

A simple machine for quickly sanding the full surface of filament wound high pressure cylinders.

IDSS-824:

This machine handles a wide range of sizes of deep drawn aluminum cups that are used to form the liners for high pressure cylinders.  The machine sands the inside surface while simultaneously cutting the cup to the proper length.

Furnace Seal:

This is a dynamic seal for maintaining an inert atmosphere in a carbon fiber production furnace while a very wide web of fiber is passed through the process.

GS-3:

A simple gel stand for handling up to three filament wound cylinders that are to be rotated in front of radiant heaters. The sizes range to 18 inches in diameter and up to 86 inches long.

Control Box:

This is an example of the control enclosures and the contents as used on machines built by Automation Dynamics.

Strip Blaster:

This machine handles 3000 foot reels of stainless steel strip and abrasively blasts one side in a continuous operation.  As this product is used for orthodontic bands the un-blasted side is protected so that it retains its high luster finish.

Tape Wrap:

This is a five axis tape wrapping machine.  The machine supports and rotates mandrels weighing up to 5000 pounds upon which a bias cut carbon fiber prepreg tape is edge wound to form an ablative shield for space re-entry vehicle nose cones. The tape, as it is being wound, is heated to tackiness for bonding and then chilled with nitrogen to freeze it in place.
